  1. Read 1 Corinthians 14:26-40. What do you think is the main point of this passage?

  2. Consider v. 26 and v. 40 together. Do you see things that are orderly as more edifying and encouraging than things that are disordered and chaotic? Explain. Do you have any examples of this?

  3. Consider v. 26. Do you come to our church gatherings prepared to build up and edify? Explain. How can you make progress in this area?

  4. Have you ever wondered why we put a high premium on orderliness in our gatherings as a church? Did this passage help you understand that? Explain.

  5. Consider v. 33. How do you feel peace is antithetical to confusion? What is the significance of the reality that God is not a God of confusion but of peace, to your life personally?

  6. How can your story of God’s work in your life be told as God bringing order to disorder?

  7. Do you agree that often times people understand “spontaneity” as more spiritual than “orderliness”? Why do you think this is?

  8. Consider vv. 36-40. Do you agree that what we hold in common with every other true church is more important than our uniqueness? Why or why not? What do we hold in common with every other true church?
