Read Acts 23:12 - 25:12. What is the main point of this passage of Scripture?
What is the God ordained role of human government according to Romans 13:1-7. How do we see the Roman government both succeed and fail in this role in Acts 23:12 – 25:12?
What is Paul’s attitude and disposition towards government in these chapters of Scripture? What do you think our attitude and disposition towards government should be? What are the challenges?
How have you seen governments play their God ordained role? How have you seen them fail at playing their God ordained role?
Consider Acts 24:15, 24-25. What are some of the themes that Paul brings out in his preaching during his time in custody? Why? How do you think preaching the gospel challenges governments to be just? If we are focused on preaching the gospel rather than political activism as a church, will it have any effect on government? Why or why not?
Consider Acts 25:6. Festus sits on the seat of judgment (βῆμα). Compare to Romans 14:10 and 2 Corinthians 5:10. God and Christ are said to be sitting on the seat of judgment (βῆμα). Compare and contrast God/Christ’s judgment judgment with the judgment of every human government? How is it similar? How is it different? What application does this have to the way we live our lives? What application did it have for Paul (consider Acts 24:15-16).
Read Romans 1:18 and Romans 5:9 together. What do these verses have to do with Acts 23:12-25:12.
