Acts 22:30-23:11
Sermon Discussion Questions
1. Read Acts 22:30 - 23:11. What is the main point of this passage of Scripture?
2. Consider Acts 23:1. How can Paul claim to have lived his “life before God in all good conscience up to this day”? How important is living with a good conscience to you? What does Hebrews 10:19-23 tell us about how our conscience is cleansed?
3. Consider Acts 22:19-20. How did Paul persecute the church with a clear conscience? How was his conscience changed? What are ways we should seek to have our conscience constantly trained and corrected?
4. Consider Acts 23:5 and Exodus 22:28. Both Paul and the Sanhedrin agreed that Exodus 22:28 should be obeyed, but they disagreed about who is “the ruler of your people.” The issue was definitions. What are some things that Christians generally agree with the world about, but we have different definitions (i.e. marriage or love)? How do we need to be careful and wise about these things when we speak about them?
5. Consider Acts 23:6. Paul says that his central message is with respect to the resurrection of the dead. How important is the doctrine of the resurrection of Christ and of our future resurrection? Why? How featured is it in your evangelism and ministry?
6. Consider Acts 23:11 and Matthew 28:18-20. What is the source of Paul’s courage? How did Paul keep going when he was all alone in ministry? Have you ever felt all alone in your pursuit of obedience to Christ?
7. What does it mean to you that, as the hymn says, “In my place condemned he stood?” What does that have to do with the Lord being with us always?
8. How is God calling you to respond to this message from Acts 22:30 - 23:11?
