Discussion Questions
Read 1 Corinthians 16:1-24. What do you think is the main point of this passage?
Do you remember the five principles about giving from verses 2-3? Which of those principles was most instructive to you? Why?
Consider verses 10-12. It appears that the church wanted Apollos to visit, but they received Timothy instead. And the church was called to serve Timothy as he served them in the gospel. Sometimes God doesn’t give us what we want, but he always gives us what we need. Can you recognize times in your life when this has been true? Explain. How can we embrace what God gives us even when it isn’t what we want most?
Consider verses 13-14. Paul desires the church to be watchful, firm in the faith, brave, and strong. What do you think this means? What does it look like in your life? What does it look like for all of this to be done in love for the saints?
Consider verses 15-18. Paul lifts up the example of Stephanas and his household. They had been Christians the longest and were known for their service to the saints. Do you recognize people like this at Sellwood Church and look to their example? Why or why not? How can we do this better?
Consider verses 19-24. How can we receive each other with warmth and affection at Sellwood Church?
