  1. Read 1 Corinthians 13:1-13. What do you think is the main point of this passage?

  2. Read 1 John 4:7-21. What is the distinguishing mark that we see in this passage of one who knows and loves God?

  3. Read 1 John 3:11-18. What does Christian love look like according to John?

  4. Read 1 Corinthians 13:1-3. What is Paul's assessment of an outwardly impressive ministry where love is absent? How might a church like Sellwood begin to look like this? How can we guard against a ministry that is lacking in love? Consider 2 Corinthians 5:14-21.

  5. Look at vv. 4-7. Of the attributes of love that Paul lists, which do you struggle with? How is God calling you to grow in love?

  6. Read and compare 1 Peter 1:3-9, Hebrews 10:19-25, Colossians 1:3-5 and 1 Corinthians 13:13. What three virtues or graces appear in all of these passages? How do these three things operate in the life of the believer and in the life of the church? What makes love the greatest of these?
