Acts 16:6-24

Sermon Discussion Questions

1. Read Acts 16:6 - 16:24. What is the main point of this passage of Scripture?

2. In 16:6-10 Paul and his team’s plans were regularly being overruled by God. When are some times when God has overruled your plans? Have you ever been frustrated that God didn’t allow things to work out the way you wanted them to? Explain.

3. In 16:11-15, as Lydia heard the word of God being spoken by Paul and Silas “the Lord opened her heart to pay attention.” Has God opened your heart to “pay attention” to the word of God? In what ways does God’s word have your attention? What is it about God’s word that captivates your attention the most? Explain.

4. In 16:16-18 we see that a slave girl has supernatural demonic powers for fortune telling. Indeed, her prophecy about Paul and the team were true. She proclaimed that they were “servants of the Most Hight God, who proclaim the way of salvation.” What does this tell us about signs and wonders? Just because someone says something is true or has supernatural knowledge, does it mean they are from God? What is the practical lesson to take away from this?

5. In 16:19-24 Paul and Silas end up beaten and in prison. And it seems like God had lead them there (vv. 6-10). What suffering and difficulty has God lead you through? Is it difficult to trust that God cares for you and you are in his plan during those moments? Explain.

6. How is God calling you to respond to this message from Acts 16:6 - 16:24?
